New in the Shop: Earrings!

I’ve been making earrings out of fishing lures for years. My favorites are the Acme Phoebe fish because they have a great shape and come in two different sizes. Whenever I spot them on sale, I grab them to make earrings. I put them away in a little tackle organizer and say, “Someday, I’ll add these to the shop.” I haven’t yet because I’ve always wanted my focus to be bags. But since adding coasters two years ago and sweater pins last yes, I thought maybe it was time to give earrings a go.

I specifically ordered stainless steel earring hooks because I want them to be more appealing to more people. My ears are happy with them so I know other people with sensitive ears will be happy with them, too.

I also made stud earrings with wooden cat buttons, at the request of my friend. I have no idea what the posts are made out of, so I only made a few. I have my own pair that I’ve been wearing around to test and they don’t bother my ears. But if I think I’m going to add more to the shop, I will definitely take the time to ensure that the posts I’m using are hypoallergenic.

They can currently be found in the Accessories Section with the sweater pins!

The Organic Collection is back!

I’m happy to announce that The Tragic Whale Organic is making it’s way back into the shop! There’s just a few bags to choose from right now- large makeup bags and a couple of pencil cases- but now that I’ve dug out my organic cotton thread I’m basically unstoppable.

I make all the Organic Collection bags using GOTS certified organic cotton fabric AND thread. More organic materials means lower impact on the environment.

Here’s a couple of the new bags:

Wednesday Whale Love: Socks

I don’t know about you, but I LOVE socks. While I don’t always like¬†wearing shoes, I super like having my feet covered. For warmth! In the winter I layer socks over my tights inside my boots, and I treat socks like slippers when I’m puttering around the house. The only time I don’t like wearing socks is when I’m sleeping. I have a whole dresser drawer devoted to them, but that doesn’t mean I couldn’t add a pair or two more ;)

I love the sharp contrast of this pair. Plus, those whales are real cute.

It looks like mint is going to be a big color this year, so I need this pair to stay on trend.

And these ones: so cool! Whales under and above the sea? C’mon, just try to tell me these aren’t sweet.

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

Fashion Advice from Mom, episode 34

I was going through tag categories last week and thought I would just combine the Fashion Advice in with the rest of the comics since it’s been almost a year since I’ve done one. But then my parents visited for my birthday, and Mom’s advice was reborn.

Also, I somehow lost episode 33. It’s not in the pictures folder so I know I never drew it up, but I know I saw it somewhere…

Anyway, my Mom is back at it!

Wednesday Whale Love

Whale duffle edition!

I want to make a duffle bag. I’ve been looking for patterns online and studying them in stores (read: Target) get get a better idea of how they’re made. I want to create something simple but still give it my own spin. Here are some beauts I happened upon in my research.

I’ve seen a larger, blue version of this one before.

I really like how the mouth is an extra pocket. I LOVE pockets!

I wish, wish, WISH I had the patience to knit / crochet because I would be all about something like this:

But I just can’t get into it. It takes too long for me to transfer the idea in my head into a net of yarn knots. I have a friend who’s pretty good at it, though. I’ll just leave the crocheting to her.

I think this one is my favorite though:

I like how the front part is 2 pockets, it puffs up to a realistic whale shape, and it looks pretty roomy.

When/ if I ever get around to this project I will definitely share pictures!
