Upcoming Events

This past Saturday kicked off the Windsor Farmers’ Market summer season! I’ll be there every Saturday though October from 11 -2, with the exception of August 22nd because I signed up for the Apple Pie Craft Fair in Newport, New Hampshire. I (finally) updated the “Events” page with the dates, times, and locations for the fairs and markets I’ll be at this summer. If you’re in the area, I hope you can stop by and say, “Hello!”

My boyfriend won’t always be hanging out with me (eating breakfast), but my bright green car is hard to miss :)

Upcoming Events

These next couple of weekends will be full of crafty wonderment for me / The Tragic Whale. I was at the Quashnet School annual craft fair last weekend, I’ll be at Coonamessett Farm tomorrow, and in Vermont the weekend after that! I’m really excited for a couple of reasons.

1) I’m much more confident in myself and my work than I was last year at this time.

2) It’s easier for me to engage people walking by my table and tell them about how I make my bags.

3) I don’t bring EVERYTHING I have. I bring a selection of different sized, shaped, and priced bags. This allows me to keep my shop open online, and gives me other things to talk about with people. If someone says, “I like this makeup bag but I would love a smaller one,” I’m able to say, “I have several other sizes,  including an extra small bag, a blah blah blah.”

I’ve added an “Events” page to keep anyone interested up to date!

Tomorrow I’ll be at Coonamessett Farm in E. Falmouth which means I’ll be sharing pictures via Instargram, Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr, so get ready! My doctor suggested I look into it, and I’m excited because there will be a lot of local crafters there, and most of the shows I’ve done have been a jumble of crafts and people who just sell things.  Like this guy and his wife we call “Dog Socks,” because most of the fairs we did last year we saw them and they sell socks with dogs on them.

11 am to 3 pm, rain or shine! If you’re in the Cape Cod area you should totally come check it out!

Back at the beginning of December(ish), WordPress announced that it was going to launch WordAds which is their own advertizing thing. This was right after I thought we might move to Blogger so we’d have the option for advertizing on the blog.  And around the time when I thought maybe, just MAYBE, I could start the process of running my own business and quitting my day job! Anyway, when I first saw the announcements for WordAds, I signed up immediately.

Then I waited.

I got this emailed, and waited some more.

I figured WordPress was super busy trying to figure out how this was going to work, and it would take a long time to hear back. Like, 2 months. Tops.

Then I figured they didn’t want me because, although I try not to swear or say offensive things, I did say, “Who wants to eat in tiny little portions? Not an American, that’s for damn sure!” in a post. I know its isn’t the worst, but it wasn’t one of my proudest moments. Even though I laughed while typing it and again just now when I had to hunt it down and paste it in here. Ahaha.

Then I forgot completely.

Until a few days ago when this email came!

But I’d already given WordAds up for dead. Moved on and decided that I didn’t need advertizing. I’m not going to leave me job (probably ever. I’ll probably die there), and my blog and etsy are just hobbies.

Also, to activate, you have to link to PayPal and give your social security number for tax purposes and stuff.

And right now I don’t make enough on etsy to HAVE to claim it on my taxes. Which brings me to the most important part, will this make doing taxes hard?!

When I asked, WordPress said I had some time to think about it.

The results are in, and I talked to a couple of other people, and it looks like we’re going to give WordAds a try!

Free shipping for April

Over the hiatus, I temporarily shut down my etsy shop. I decided that if I was taking a creative break, that would include answering emails and packaging products. Ok, ok. Really I just wanted to be lazy for a bit.

Well we’re back up and running. While there aren’t any new products (yet), I did make some changes to shipping. The Tragic Whale will no longer ship out of the United States.

Such a bitch move, I know. But I don’t understand those customs forms! If you say it’s a gift, it costs a normal amount to ship. But if you said it’s merchandise it’s, like, an extra $40! I don’t want to lie, but I also don’t want to ask someone to send me their first born in exchange for a $10 change purse. So, at least for now, I’m just going to be a jerk and not ship out of the country.

Also, you can’t add package tracking outside of the country! I understand it, but I hate it. How will I know if my product made it to its destination?! Oh, US Postal Service. I love you, but sometimes you make it hard.

The good news is FREE SHIPPING for all of April!

I waited a day to announce it so no one would think it was a joke :)

Hiatus = over

And we’re back!

We’ve (I’ve) had a couple of weeks to regroup, make a lot of lists, had a lot of friends ask me to make things for them, and haven’t made a single thing! But enough is enough, Kerry. It’s time to get back in the game. And make things for your patient, patient friends.

Mostly, I felt like I creatively ran dry. Sometimes you just have to take a break and brain storm like crazy to get back in the swing of things. And read a lot of books. If you like that sort of thing.

To help, I bought some giant glasses for Panda and I to share. For when we aren’t feeling very creative.

He clearly loves them.

And because the weather is turning amazing again (and HOPEFULLY staying amazing) I can get back to “Sundays are for Rollerblading!”

In this next one I was trying to dance. Something I’m not coordinated enough to do on roller blades.

Eventually this will spill into the week. But it needs to get a wee bit warmer and stay light out a wee bit longer.

Blogging hiatus

We’re taking a break to regroup and do some crafty brainstorming!

This includes Wednesday Whale Love.
