What you need to know about Red Pandas

I recently saw a video of a Red Panda playing peek-a-boo around a corner with a human and my heart melted. My heart turned into a puddle and seeped out of my chest and into my hand where is dripped slowly to the floor. Figuratively. But oh gosh, they are so cute! So I did what I always do when I find something new and obsess over it- I researched them like crazy.

1) They aren’t pandas at all! They’re actually related to raccoons, weasels, and skunks. Makes sense because they look like raccoons and waddle around like skunks.

2) While they aren’t endangered, they’re labeled as a “vulnerable species” because there aren’t a ton of them left. I heard once there are 10 chickens in the world to very human. Well there are about 700,000 humans to every Red Panda. (70 billion chickens, 7 billion humans, 10 thousand Red Pandas.)

3) They live in India, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, and China.

4) They’re working on their own gymnastics team for the 2016 summer Olympics.

5) Their diet consists mostly of bamboo, but have also been know eat berries, flowers, and small birds. Om nom nom.

6) They are so super cute.
