February in review.

I realize I don’t have a ton of content to choose from here since I accidently took a blogging break in the middle of the month. Oops. But I do have enough to pick out a few favorite from!

My favorite posts from February:

The man at work who gave me an old telephone number

I shared some of my recent projects. I’m still working out some final design elements for the adventure bag, but it’s testing really well so far.

I finally got a chance to grill up some Panda when my parents went away!

And my favorite whale find was… This intricate and beautifully detailed whale card!

I Mom shared that grill picture of Panda on Facebook and she got a lot of suggestions for where he should go next. But they were all places he’s already been! (Like the dryer, the microwave, the oven.) I was thinking that maybe I should have a Funny Situations starring Panda page, where all of his adventures would be in one easy-to-find place? What do you think?

Jake and Kerry: A picture book.

Today, we celebrate the birth of one of my very best friends: Jake! We met in college and while we didn’t quite hit it off right away, the friendship we have today is equal only to the bond I have with my family. As a college graduation gift, I made him a picture book of some of our adventures together.

We worked as Resident Assistants (RAs) together our senior year, and were fortunate enough to have a close, family-like staff. I made this in 2010 and I don’t think it had any captions, but I’ll add some in now. And, go!

Jake and Kerry 3We used to go on a lot of adventures together.

Jake and Kerry 4For some reason it was a good idea for us to have sleeveless sweatshirts. But it was cold so we had to wear hoods. College, right?

jake and kerry 5Every week we would meet with our boss, Danielle. We love her (still!) but we used to really love messing with her. She especially didn’t like when we played the “look at Danielle and Laugh” texting game.

Jake and Kerry 6We both enjoy a good fire.

Jake and Kerry 7We worked overnight shifts at the front desk of our building. They were usually one-person shifts but sometimes we would keep each other company.

Jake and Kerry 8For Halloween that year, Jake and Jimmy dressed up as Teletubbies, I was Liz Lemon, and Lauren was Marilyn Monroe! Everyone had to work on Halloween because we went to school in Salem, MA, and Halloween is HUGE there. We tried to make the best of it. (Jake is the one with a beard.)

Happy Birthday, Jake! I hope it’s a great one :)

Wednesday Whale Love

Let’s talk about Belugas. They are arguably the ugliest whales out there. They look like lumpy sea ghosts. Swimming around in freezing cold water for most of the year. Always getting attacked by polar bears and killer whales and Inuits. Obviously you aren’t blending in well with all that ice, Belugas! You’re still on the protected species list! But I did find some cool Belugas on Etsy.

These earrings are beautiful. Hand painted and everything!

This iron-on patch is intense. You can totally see the Sea-Ghost coming out!

I love anything that can hang on a whale (which is why I have no empty wall space in my room). This whale is majestic! He’d be the show stopper of any wall.

Hope your Wednesday isn’t too cold!

Funny situations starring Panda!

Considering my parents got a new grill in November, this is long overdue.

01PandaGrill02

I had the perfect opportunity to stick Panda in the new grill this past weekend while my parents were away on a cruise.  I wanted to shut him in but I couldn’t figure out how to take that shelf out. He got lucky.

As revenge, Panda decided to make up his own game. I call it “Spot the Panda in the Clean Laundry,” where he stretches his grubby, smelly little body out over my clean clothes.

He knows he’s been caught. You can see it in his eyes. And yet? He did not move.

By Sunday, I was non-stop Snap Chatting photos and videos of him. Exclusively.

But just look at that tongue! He did that for almost 20 minutes!

Oh, Panda. Who will I hang out with / stash in weird places when you retire to the pet grave? The fish..?

Wednesday Whale Love

I have some amazing Whale Card finds to share with you this week. The expression on this first one is cracking me up!

(source)

This next one is embossed, which totally explains why it appears to be jumping off the paper! Classic Stationers has 6 different whale cards to choose from and they are all equally beautiful.

(source)

This one has to be my favorite, probably because it combines two of my favorite things! The detail of the whale and coral are incredible. I don’t think I’ve seen a card like this before, ever.

All of these shops have AMAZING cards for all occasions! I highly recommend giving them a look-over, even if whales aren’t particularly your thing :)

Recent projects.

I was on vacation last week, so I thought I would use some of my bonus free time to get some lurking projects off my list.

A couple of months ago, this lady who works with my mom asked if I could make a bag for her. Then she invited me to her house (which I was SUPER NOT COMFORTABLE WITH) to go over the specs. I didn’t realize she wanted me to attempt to replicate an existing bag until after I got there.

bags03(original bag)

Nor did I realize that it wasn’t 1 bag she wanted. But 5 bags. She gave me quite a bit of moth-nibbled fabric to work with and asked how long it should take. I promised her just a prototype by the next weekend, because this was Holiday time and I already had a handful of other Holiday-related project to work through, but she said, “Oh, don’t worry about it. Just get to them whenever.” I think you can see where this is going….

bags01(pile of bags)

Well, I got them ALL to her this week. Folded and tucked into the original bag, with all the excess fabric, secured tightly in a large plastic bag. Which I dropped off on her front door. Because angry people make me nervous.

And thus, I’m on official Special-Project Hiatus.  If it’s not already in the shop, I simply cannot do it. I’m trying to juggle too many big things right now and I can’t have another “whenever you can get to it,” turn into “IF WE COULD MEET AND RETURN MY FABRIC AND OLD BAG THAT WOULD BE GREAT.” (Would you want to meet with someone after they sent you an all-caps email?  I can’t blame me.)

bags02(Bags in bag)

The Adventure Bag Prototype is here! It’s actually a little wider than I envisioned, and the strap is wayyyy too floppy. But these are kinks I can work out after I’m sure I don’t destroy it in a week.

AdvetnureBag01

Has lots of pockets inside, for all your adventuring needs! But does it have enough pockets? Maybe I could have an Adventure Bag and a Deluxe Adventure Bag?

adventurebag02

I made a pair of little dinos for my valentine. They have magnets in their noses! I love making these little guys but they are surprisingly time consuming.

LoveDinos(KissKissKiss)

And I wanted to restock the shop a little bit.  I have all these bags hanging around in various stages of production so I finished some off.

I still have a whale to make, an Elf on the Shelf to alter, and the infamous T-Shirt Blanket to take care of, but I’m getting there!
