It’s Mother’s Day!

So naturally I’ll be sharing a funny story about my Mom :)

Around Christmas my Mom said to me, “You know, Kerry. My school bag (she works at a school) is wearing out. So if you needed a gift idea-”

“YOU WANT ME TO MAKE YOU A NEW BAG FOR SCHOOL!”

“No. Just forget it. If you’re going to make it then you can just forget it. I need something STRONG. Not something that will fall apart in a few months. You know what? Come up with your own gift idea.”

Exhibit A: sewing machine carrying bag. Because I needed a strong bag to carry my sewing machine and all my gear and couldn’t find one I liked at a store.

My Mom is brutally honest. It’s one of my favorite things about her only because it’s hilarious. She usually doesn’t realize her words sometimes come across the wrong way until much later when my brothers and I are laughing about it.

She basically hasn’t wanted a thing to do with anything that I sew. My Gram, on the other hand, tries to buy EVERYTHING from me to give as gifts. Because she loves saying, “My granddaughter made this!” Consequently, this drives my Mom shit-house.

So when, for Mother’s Day, my Mom asked if I could make her a little wristlet to bring on vacation, I thought she was joking.

“You want me to buy one?” I asked.
“No, I want you to make me one. Some of your new styles are kind of cute!” She said. Followed by, “But none of that ruffly shit. And nothing TOO big, I trying to downgrade here.” This is what I came up with (smaller version of some of my new bags):

And while I was at it, I made her a new school bag:

Since that one I bought in December fell apart after a few months. Pfft.

LOL! Sadly store-bought can be an even bigger crapshoot than handmade.
