Wednesday whale love: Blue Whale of Catoosa

Target always has the greatest whale stuff. Just last week my friend and I happened across these amazing mugs:

I was only going to get one. But then I said, why not the whole set?

I thought the whales looked especially peculiar; aside from wearing hats they also have ladders up their backs. A little bit of research lead me to (and I still have no idea how I stumbled upon this) the Blue Whale of Catoosa:

Amazing, right?  It’s a road side attraction off of Route 66 in Oklahoma!

I want to go to there.

Over the weekend I received the cutest little package from my friend, Scott:

Almost as a bonus he triple wrapped it. And I love unwrapping things!

I recently discovered that Anna Karenina, probably my favorite giant Russian novel, has been made into a movie. In my excitement I sent a mass text to 20 of my closest friends, including the one I was sitting next to. This is the stick-figure dramatization of the conversation that followed with my brother:

And in case you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the trailer!

It hits the US November 16th. And like every film I’m dying to see it will only be in select theaters.

I got a leather punch!

Last week I got a leather punch! It’s something I’ve wanted for a long time as my belts never seen to have holes in exactly the correct spots. Plus, it’s handy.  And my dad didn’t have one.

I brought it home, tested it out (hadda make sure it works), and brought it to the living room to show it off.

“LOOK AT MY LEATHER PUNCH!!!!!! IT MAKES HOLES IN LEATHER!!!!!” I said, casually.

“Stop yelling. And let me see that.” Just a typical Dad response. “Oh, nice! This will come in handy.”

And from the kitchen we hear, “What the hell is a leather punch?”

“It’s a tool for punching holes in leather,” I said.

“Why do you need one of those?”

“For punching holes in leather,” I said. I could hear my mom rolling her eyes.

But by the time my news made it to Facebook it was like the conversation never happened.  And my brother captured this screen shot of Classic Patty:

Red Sox whale

So I have this new guy in my life. And we’ve been hanging out, having fun, and sharing little pieces of ourselves with each other. Which is, you know, cute but also something I’m totally not used to. I’m used to holding up in my room for days at a time and blocking out all human contact and face-to-face social interaction and just sewing.

Anyway, I’d been racking my brain for something to MAKE for him! I basically don’t know how to sew gifts for boys, but I love sewing so this was really important to me. Obviously he doesn’t need a cute clutch. I don’t know how to make wallets, plus he already has one so that would be pointless. A change purse seemed silly.

But then I was like, “Well, he loves the Red Sox. And I love whales. Maybe I can find a way to- GOT IT!”

Red Sox whale! Duh, Kerry. Honestly, the answer was staring me in the face and it took me days to come up with.

Look at that little cutie! I used my whale pattern and replaced the blue and cream fleece with red and Red Sox print. Success!
